  • In late 2013, Preoccupations —then known as Viet Cong— released a small-run of cassettes only available on tour. Due to high demand and critical acclaim for this hard-to-find item, the tape was re-released on vinyl by Mexican Summer in the Summer of 2014, simply titled 'Cassette'. Now the EP is now back and available on 12" vinyl.

  • The band changed its name from Viet Cong to Preoccupations.
This is a re-issue of their debut EP of 2013

Over the course of a year, Matt Flegel and Scott Munro worked in their basement studio with a mess of old and run-down equipment to build a set of fresh material. Joined by bandmates Daniel Christiansen and Michael Wallace, the band completed work on a debut cassette. What emerged from the studio was a mixture of sharply-angled rhythm workouts and euphoric ‘60s garage pop-esque melodies, balanced with a penchant for drone-y, VU-styled downer moments, and became a hard-to-find classic.

    Liner Notes

Produced and recorded by Preoccupations in their basement studio.

    Matt Flegel – bass, vocals
    Mike Wallace – drums
Scott "Monty" Munro – guitar, synth
    Daniel Christiansen – guitar

  • Gristly psych has a serrated post-punk edge, and a bloodied feel, somewhere between the Velvet Underground and British punk rock.

    NME 9/10

"Throw It Away" revs up with intertwined guitar jangle and spiky melodies, like Television on amphetamines, while "Static Wall" sounds like it was forgotten from the Children of Nuggets comp.
